As a child Dr Payne’s lifelong goal was to become a doctor. Dr. Payne always had a desire to help those in need. When Dr Payne was racing cycling internationally, one of the team members of the Canadian national team was hit from behind by a dump truck on a training ride. He subsequently became a quad-pelagic. Although the accident was tragic it raised a question or statement in Dr Payne’s mind. “Isn’t it interesting how the physiology of the body changes with the physiology of the spine?” The question became a burning desire and a life long quest to help serve humanity.
Though the quest of understanding the nature of the question above it was as if God orchestrated a series of ‘coincidences’ or ‘circumstances’ that introduced him to chiropractic. The quest has gotten more passionate as each year passes.
Dr Payne’s life motto is to honor God by using the gifts He has given him to serve humanity thought this vehicle of Chiropractic. Through training in discipline, prayer, training in faith and knowledge and physical training he is able to see his gifts exercised in meaningful ways to help his fellow man.
Dr Payne graduated from Logan College of Chiropractic in 1992. During his college studies he found a unique principle of how the structure of the spine when improved to near-normal had dramatic influences on the health of the recipients.
His passion for principled chiropractic is the dominate professional pursuit in his life. He has had the opportunity to take care of many professionals in many fields of the arts, academia, sports, and business community.
Dr Payne is involved in the chiropractic community. Training wth some of the brightest in the profession. He is involved with Chiropractors For Compassion of Compassion Canada helping the organization raise close to $1 million to projects that benefit schools, homes and communities across the globe.
Dr Payne is also involved in the community. He is a long time member of the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa, served as a board member of several Christian organizations. He has a lovely wife Heike and three children that continue to be an encouragement and inspiration to him.

Dr. Derek Haughton considers himself extremely blessed to be living out a calling that was put on his heart at the early age of seven while growing up in Smiths Falls, Ontario. His ‘when I grow up’ dream list included being a professional hockey or soccer player like most kids, but most of all he wanted to be a Chiropractor. As a child his parents nurtured an understanding that building the causes of health should take precedent over treating the causes of disease. This made sense to him. This philosophy coupled with his deep desire to help people set his dream into motion toward becoming a chiropractor.
This dream took him to Parker College of Chiropractic in Dallas, Texas, where he graduated in 1997. Since then he’s been helping people rebuild and maintain levels of health they initially thought impossible through corrective chiropractic care and the principles of health stewardship of the mind, body, and spirit.
An essential part of health and what he tragically calls a ‘blind spot’ in our healthcare system today is the fact that all organs, systems and tissues of the body are dependent upon the proper function of the nerve system. Science shows that the state of function of the spine is what determines the function of the nerve system which determines the state of our health. He’s been working to remedy this situation by passionately spreading the chiropractic message of health to the Ottawa region through empowering lectures, workshops, T.V. appearances and radio, helping others to get serious about their health rather than getting serious only after symptoms, dysfunction and disease take root.
“Something I’m really excited about is being part of ‘Chiropractors with Compassion’ which is a group of like-minded chiropractors from across Canada who have a massive vision for impacting health not only in the members of our local communities but also in those living in impoverished regions around the world. We donate $20 every time a new patient is referred to our offices. In four years, CWC has donated over one million dollars to especially child-centered projects in Uganda, Kenya, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic, as well as a number of other regions. It’s impossible not to be emotionally impacted to witness right there at my fingertips, restored lives to those who’ve lost hope for health, as well as witness lives forever changed by the financial donations sent abroad that are helping to create better infrastructure and self-sustaining communities with fresh drinking water and other essentials for health. The referrals that make this possible are literally changing and saving lives locally and globally. To the members of my practice making these referrals I am eternally grateful.”
Prior to his chiropractic education Dr. Haughton attended Ambassador University in Big Sandy, Texas on a soccer scholarship, where he was awarded ‘Academic All-American’ status as a scholar athlete. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies with major emphasis in life-sciences and history and a minor in theology. Dr. Haughton is thankful each day to share these and many other passions with his lovely wife and two children as well as extended family in the region. |
